The aging of Boomers in America will bring a double whammy on the market since they are not only seniors who are healthier and probably will live independently longer, but they also come in much greater numbers! The New Niche in Senior Housing for Active Adults
There seems to be a niche market arising from the maturing of the Boomers. It reflects the need for housing which is designed for active adults. Although they don't need assisted living or other more extended services, they may benefit from some accommodations like accessibility, walk in showers, etc. Since seniors are staying healthy longer, there seems to be a longer period of time between retirement and diving into more costly retirement homes which offer more options including assisted living.
The numbers of these active older adults looking for senior living residences is growing quickly as Boomers age. Retirement communities and senior living properties are scrounging to meet the need for active adult housing. Active senior living is the evolving picture for newly retired people as many continue to work and others slow down gradually but continue living an active and independent lifestyle.
