In a resort town many people need a taxi. With the increased enforcement of drinking and driving laws more people are resorting to taxi travel when they go out on the town. For twelve years I drove taxis in the resort town of Collingwood, Ontario, Canada.
Two Million Visitors
Two million visitors travel to our area for skiing in the winter and the fresh water beaches at Wasaga Beach in the summer. The main ski resort of Blue Mountain is considered the largest in Ontario with 36 runs. Along with Blue there are five other private ski areas around the north escarpment which runs through central Ontario with its southern point being Niagara Falls.
Developing Relationships
There are two different types of taxi driving. One is days and the other is nights. For most years I did day driving, because I didn't really like the drunks. Also, during the day you often developed relationship with people because they took the taxi on a regular basis. I got to know exactly where they lived, and a bit about their habits and family history. For example I would transport the grandmother, daughter and granddaughter.
